For me, I just had mine this weekend. :) I was entered in five events: 1.) 50 free, 2.) 200 free, 3.) 100 back, 4.) 100 ***, and 5.) 100 free. old and new PB times: 50fr: the only event I didn't drop time, PB is still 27.53 (Oct '10). 200fr: 2:28.11 (Jul '10)/2:18.99 100 back: 1:23.19 (Oct '10)/1:18.03 100 ***: 1:28.11 (Oct '10)/1:26.73 100 free: 1:02.64 (Oct '10)/1:00.03 FOUR MILLISECONDS AWAY FROM GOING UNDER!!! AAARGH! Still, it was a mega monster 2.5 second drop from my old PB. This month marks two years since I started swimming, though I didn't start competitively until January '09. The piano dropped in none of these events. At the end of each, I was ready to get right back in and race again. The 50 free was just a stupid mistake- I didn't warm up properly, else I would've dropped time there, too. There were lessons to be learned and new mistakes to be avoided after my previous meet last month. I learned them and avoided them. My best meet yet. What about your best meets?
  • For me, I just had mine this weekend. :) 200fr: 2:28.11 (Jul '10)/2:18.99 Great going! That is a really sweet drop in time. :chug: 100 back: 1:23.19 (Oct '10)/1:18.03 100 free: 1:02.64 (Oct '10)/1:00.03 Oh I would love to peel 4.16s off my 100 back time and 2.61s off my 100 free time. FOUR MILLISECONDS AWAY FROM GOING UNDER!!! AAARGH! Still, it was a mega monster 2.5 second drop from my old PB. Yea, I have a rule: Never be upset about a pb. Don't sweat the 40 milliseconds. That will provide motivation to keep up the intense training. You will be a better swimmer because of it. What about your best meets? Can't say I've ever had one like the one you describe here. I remember as a kid winning 5 blue ribbons at a dual meet on 7/7/77. Lucky sevens to be sure! I don't recall if any were pb times though.
  • Ill State masters meet 2006. High point trophy for 55 - 59 with 11 swims with the 1000 free being 13:59 putting me in the top 10 in the record book for that group !!!
  • Wow, very impressive. Congrats! My best meets so far have been 2008 Nationals in Austin and 2009 Nationals in Clovis.
  • Very impressive meet! I can so relate to the frustration of getting so close to breaking the 1 min mark on the 100 free. But now you have a goal goal for the next meet. I am not a sprinter but worked off and on at breaking 30 sec for the 50 free. At one meet I even had it video taped ready to break it only to come in at 30:00. I have since broken it over and over and now it's easy. It will come to you as well. My best meet... hm.. Portland LCM Nationals. Not just for all the personal best times (at the time) but for the meet itself. I was able to go "home" and swim with my home team, see so many friends and be in a great pool.
  • congrats very nice 50 fr & 100 fr keep working on your speed & speed endurance you'll go under with a 1:00 time your 200 fr should be much faster how did you split it? 50fr: the only event I didn't drop time, PB is still 27.53 (Oct '10). 200fr: 2:28.11 (Jul '10)/2:18.99 100 back: 1:23.19 (Oct '10)/1:18.03 100 ***: 1:28.11 (Oct '10)/1:26.73 100 free: 1:02.64 (Oct '10)/1:00.03
  • as a master swimmer it must have been 2008 Swedish nationals. I swam 10 ind events and 2 relays. got a Masters PB in all 10 events. as a swimmer it's a tie between the 1986 new england summer championships where I ranked top 10 in the 50breast and the 1996 American East Conference championship where I swam the 400IM for the first time since 86' and got a PB on the 100fly in that race ;)

But now you have a goal goal for the next meet. I am not a sprinter but worked off and on at breaking 30 sec for the 50 free. At one meet I even had it video taped ready to break it only to come in at 30:00. I have since broken it over and over and now it's easy. It will come to you as well. I can just taste it. When I recollected the race moment by moment, I remembered that I breathed on my breakout off the last turn. Just one little lapse in concentration... oh, I can tell you now I'll be working even harder in practices (harder than I already have) on not breathing at all right on the breakout. Yea, I have a rule: Never be upset about a pb. Don't sweat the 40 milliseconds. That will provide motivation to keep up the intense training. You will be a better swimmer because of it. Good advice. :) with a 1:00 time your 200 fr should be much faster how did you split it? I don't know the splits, the meet didn't provide them. I must admit that even though this is a 10 second drop, I probably could've gone slightly faster. The 200 free is still a race I'm extremely new to, I haven't begun to figure it out. My first ever 200 free was LC back in June, my second was SC in July. This 200 free, SC, was only my third ever. In comparison, my 1 minute 100 free is an event that I have now raced, by my count, ten times. My next meet is the second weekend of December. I have every intention of making it my new best.

Just one little lapse in concentration... oh, I can tell you now I'll be working even harder in practices (harder than I already have) on not breathing at all right on the breakout. On the 50 free when I hit the 30 even, I took a breath right before the finish, inside the flags. That was my downfall. So I can totally relate to your story. Now you know what to work on for next time and you will do it!

Congratulations. Those are terrific drops, especially that 200 free. You must have been working hard. Well done.
  • 100 back: 1:17.38. PB, by a second, previous PB set last month. 100 ***: 1:24.30. PB, by 4 seconds, previous PB set in October. 50 free: 27.86. Not a PB, but still better than last month's 28.05. 100 fly: 1:11.25. PB, by FIFTEEN seconds, previous PB set in July. 100 free: 58.95. PB, by over a second. Previous PB set last month. Great job!
