What kind of fins should I buy?

Hi, was wondering if experienced swimmer can recommend fins? I'd like to use them to practice freestyle, and dolphin kicks. There's more than 1 type at the store. Perhaps someone can post a pic or a link? Thanks.

We tried out a variety of fins for a recent issue of SWIMMER magazine. Click here: YouTube - SWIMMER Magazine Fin Testing
  • I've used the Kiefer Silicone Training fins, available at kiefer.com, for years. I've found them to be comfortable and durable. I'd recommend them to anyone.

I did some testing out to suit my needs. I used to use (I think they were called) flex-fins. If you watch the video previously linked, you'll see them talk about some fins from Clubswim. Those are a lot like the flex-fins. I liked the price and fit (I have size 14, very narrow feet), but they tended to split after a while. (I kick hard, and I weigh about 250.) I started a thread some time back looking for suggestions, and someone recommended Tyr Split Fins. (They're kind of like the Speedo Optimus in the video, sort of...) (You can SEARCH for that theread for some discussion in there.) These have lasted me about 2 years now, without a sign of splitting or wear. I have been very happy with them.
  • I've used Blue Zoomers since shortly after I started Master's last January. I'm happy with them -- I haven't really tried others so I'm not the best person to ask :)
