PVCM? My pulmonologist suggested that I self administer a breath flow meter at pool side. Normal reading for my age/ is 550. During an 80 lap work out (mostly 100 pull/ 50 kick as I still can not do more than 50 free without gasping for air) I monitored a steady flow of 450 over 12 trys. I will go in next week for a final pulmonary test to determine if I have EIB. So far, after 17 days, in hailed steroids and albuteral are not working. Does any one know about PVCM? (paradoxial vocal cord motion disorder)
Vocal cord dysfunction is a really hard diagnosis to make --sometimes you need to do an exercise test with a simultaneous laryngoscopy. Many times the initial evaluation is normal. When confirmed, it usually responds well to speech therapy.
It seems like your symptoms are hard to replicate outside the pool which is complicating your diagnosis...
