so bummed it's not at Long Beach this year, this is the one event I enjoy watching. I learned about it one year as I was swimming on my saturday at the Belmont Pool, it was empty and I almost had the whole pool to myself. There were just a few swimmers at the other end of the pool but I wasn't really paying much attention, mostly because they were faster than me and I wasn't gettting any joy passing anyone that day. well they finished up before me and started to get out of the pool ... now I really was the only one swimming. Course it was Michael Phelps and Erik Vendt if I remember right. I got out after that ha ha ... I didn't like being the only one in the pool with the fastest swimmers watching. Anyway ... pretty cool to have swum with em even though I didn't realize it at the time.

twitter.com/ Look at Lochte's latest tweet: "All I have to say about this morning swims is hahhahhahahahahahaha" "hahahahahahahahahaha" is right, Ryan. edit: cool story, dude. That reminds me of the Santa Clara meet in June '09. It was a beautiful Wednesday afternoon and I had just gotten out of the pool for the Masters workout. When I was tugging on my socks, I heard the gate unlatch and clink over my left shoulder. I saw a bunch of swimmers walking onto the facility. Then I did a double-take and realized Michael Phelps was among them. A moment later, Bob Bowman came walking in. I can totally understand what you mean about not wanting to be in the pool with really fast swimmers watching. Thankfully, I wasn't!

  • Wow, Phelps is in the B Final for the 200 Free? Going (for him) a very pedestrian 1:55.04??? Strange. I would think that he would be at least 53-high, 54-low in pre-lims, especially in the first swim.

Well, Phelps came back tonight to take 2nd overall in the 200 free and 1st in the 100 fly. There's nothing wrong with him. :)

My hunch is that Phelps purposely swam really slow in the prelims so to avoid a head to head match-up with Lochte in the final.
  • Kate Ziegler had a sick 400 free and beat Katie Hoff. Plus, they race each other everyday ast FAST. Someone should film those practices. The 400 free is going to be tight in the Women's with Hoff, Ziegler, Chloe Sutton, Allison Schmidt, and whatever 15 year old that comes out of the woodwork to challenge the vets to qualify for London. Lochte could be more beat up from training than Phelps at this point. Phelps is starting to look like Phelps again. You can't count him out. Lezak was just "sick" in the 50 free. Good move by Finis to put him on the payroll.
