I know that we always look bad in the rankings just before worlds but I don't think I've ever seen Fina rankings where no American had cracked the top 10 in any freestyle event (w/exception of Phelps in the 200Fr). We don't look too hot in the back, *** or fly either (w/exception of Phelps in the 100Fly). Is this the end of the US dynasty in the pool?

I've been swimming for a long time but I've never been in a swim-off (of course, there really aren't opportunities in masters swimming). I never envied people who had to do it, that's for sure.
I'm hard-pressed to recall a swim-off where the stakes were this high, though...especially involving teammates. Has there ever been a swim-off for an Olympic spot?
