I was just trying to stir the pot. :anim_coffee:
(That was actually quoting Fort, not you.)
It looks like there is going to be a Colonies SCM Championship after all (ie, the NE championship meet will be the CZ championship).
LCM was not that popular last summer, and the Top Ten reflect that fact.
I attended exactly the same number of LCM meets in 2010 as in 2009, 1. I wanted to do more, but see below...
No CZ SCM meet this December.
No PV SCM meet on the schedule for this December.
Can't go to a meet that isn't held. Bummer too. I was planning on SCM zones since 2009, when I couldn't go becaue of too much work.
I'd like to see further stats as well. But I tend to agree with Patrick. It seems too much of a coincidence to say that everyone got injured, had pressing family obligations, fell ill, decided to take up another sport, got hammered at work, etc, etc. since Atlanta.
Well maybe not everyone, but...
I couldn't go to PR due to a family vacation, which had been a year in the planning and involved bringing relatives from overseas to join us, so no way that was going to be changed.
-missed LCM zones due to illness.
-skipped the PA state meet because it was the same day as my daughter's league champs.
-got ill and missed a local meet that I did attend last autumn. (Actually I was ill last year too, but went anyway and swam not so well. Note to self - don't plan on being healthy in October.)
...and I'll miss SCM zones because there isn't one.
Have jammers, have interest, train regularly, just need to have time and be healthy. That seems to be not so easy. My guess is that my life isn't so different from that of many others.

I guess the meet title will soon change to include the words "Zone Championship." I am not sure that will make much of a real difference in anything, but there you go!

I also said I'd "like to see further stats." Sheesh, it was just an opinion. And, unlike at convention apparently, I've heard people complain about the lack of suits.
I had heard that the idea that NE will also = CZ was voted down? Not that it makes much difference b/c what was two meets will now be one. Could make for odd record keeping as well, since I believe NE SCM Champs and CZ keep separate meet records?

I'm sure life gets in everyone's way from time to time. We are masters after all, many of us with families and jobs. But aren't these factors the same every year? The economy may play a role this year, as Q has noted elsewhere. But perhaps the lack of suits is one among many factors that effects people's thinking?
I missed 6 weeks of training this summer, but went to CZ in August anyway. And I was quite unhealthy all of October as well. :afraid: But I went to my local SCY meet anyway. The lack of suits does effect my decision making somewhat though.
We're not going to agree on this. I can go faster by putting fins on too. I enjoy speed I've earned through preparation and performance, not speed I've purchased.
And it becomes a matter who has the best fins (or, at least, that becomes an important factor). No thanks, I hated having to try to remember which suit I wore at each meet.
My fins are super cheap and effective. :D
I had no problem remembering -- I just wore the B70 for every single meet for years. :)
But people who attend convention seem to be those that always compete no matter the circumstances?
Definitely true for me - I'll compete regardless of limiting coverage.
But I also believe there are others who don't go to convention, that'll compete no matter what the suit rules are as well.

Of course. I am one of those.
But it is not beyond contemplation that there are others who won't or won't as much or who will limit their events.

Of course you are, as are most "serious" swimmers. I didn't form my statement very well.
I could actually see the suits being a factor in attendance at the major SCM meets. I know for me I'd like to swim some fast SCM times, but at the same time I don't really want to shave down in the middle of the season. I'm still planning to swim a SCM meet, but it isn't as easy a decision as it was last year when I knew I could just slap on the old b70 and throw down fast times. So, yeah, maybe the big SCM meets, but I really don't see why it would affect meets in general and I think in time everyone will accept the new suit landscape.
