  • My favorite non-workout workout set is anything with a monofin. At my old gym, there was a guy I used to call Slappy because of the force with which one hand and one leg hit the water on entry. On the occasions where I was forced to share a lane with him, I did lots of "Phelpsian" underwater 25s. In this particular case, it was not intended to show off, but rather a safety precaution because I was afraid of a Slappy Attack if I got too close to the surface. LOL! I can totally relate. There's a guy at my gym who I've dubbed "Cap'n Slappy". In his case, he always swims his laps with fins. Each time he makes a flip turn, he splashes about a gallon of water out of the pool onto the deck with a resounding "slap". No matter where I place my swimbag, it's sure to be soaked. He's totally aware of what he is doing as we chatted about it one day. Too funny.
