I think it would be fun to pick a day and declare it USMS Old-School Equipment Practice Day.
Wear your old drag suits (no fewer than 2!) and pantyhose and dig out your old latex caps. Strap on your old Swedes or single-strap bug-eyed Speedo goggles and bring whatever else you've still got lying around.
Then we'll all post pictures on the forums, discuss what it was like to swim with the old gear and tell stories about our most beloved pieces of old equipment.
We'll all have a good laugh and the next day, when we go back to Endurance suits, Vanquishers and silicone caps, we'll be extra appreciative of the technological progress of the last 20+ years.
Anyone game?
Good idea. I'm going to show up for practice in one of my paper suits from college. :bolt:
Forgive me for being seriously out of the loop - but Paper suits?
Paper suits were what we used to wear for taper meets back in the days before the "tech suits." Basically the material is very similar to the Speedo FS Pro, if you've seen those. Everyone wore briefs and wedged themselves into the smallest size possible. Plumber butt was rampant at taper meets in those days.
I think the name stemmed from the fact that the woven material made the suit sort of crinkly like paper.
Now little kids call them swim diapers. Knelson is that what you are referring to. I know you were a very young swimmer in the old days.
Paper thin suits...
Good idea. I'm going to show up for practice in one of my paper suits from college. :bolt:
Hey now - I wore an almost-paper-suit (Maru Extreme) for my first few summer league meets this year - its 8 years old but I always preferred my now outlawed zipper suits for meets, so its not seen much action.
However it made me nervous so I got with the times and bought my TYR kneeskin.
I tried to interest my 6 yo in wearing 2 suits last week, as she already realises she swims faster in lycra than endurance suits. But she chose the endurance over 2 thin lycra ones!
Paper swim suits Skinsuit - a slang term for a swimsuit designed to have minimum drag in the water. While many swimmers use the traditional knitted lycra, the newest suit is woven lycra, called a "paper" suit because of its texture. There are continually new styles and fabrics put out on the market.
Once a week I wear my fastest pair of jammers (paid $33.00 for them) and my vanquisher knock offs to treat the witnesses.
:lmao:
Wooohooooo! You go George! :applaud:
:applaud::applaud::applaud::applaud::applaud: Elaine could you please tell me which font you are using?? Anything that gets Geek going like that, I want to use it.:applaud::applaud::applaud::applaud:
Gladly, George! It's Comic Sans MS. Go ahead; the more the merrier! If something as trivial as font and color choice can annoy somebody to the extent it annoys Geek and Wookie, they deserve it. :D
I happen to do this nearly every day. I wear a pair of regular shorts, not a swim suit. My googles I wear in training are from the past. Once a week I wear my fastest pair of jammers (paid $33.00 for them) and my vanquisher knock offs to treat the witnesses.
