  • Ian Thorpe's comment in a BBC story that it could be something in the environment (on the deck, in the locker rooms) rather than in the water itself seems reasonable. Yuck. :eek::eeew: Overflowing sewage in the swim facility restrooms? Pigeon droppings? Gaah! I'm bemused by another's comment that "we expected a certain level of illness coming into this environment." Apparently, knocking out a quarter of the swimmers is below the level expected.
