Hi swimmers,
I was wondering if FINA will ever have a World Masters Open Water Championship. It think it will attract many swimmers. Maybe five days championship with distances from 10km, 5km, 3km, 1km???. Many of us don't like Pool events any more and unfortunately Fina doesn’t allow Master swimmers to do 1500mts. Yes some of us think 800 is too short.
I think this dream can come true, we just need support from out fellow Open water swimmers.

I'm not sure you could have both at the same venue.
I don't know how it is in the rest of the world, but at this years worlds, the host really had to work hard every day to fill the officials and volunteer jobs. My dad work one session as a gate guard, I was a turning official one day even though I had not planned on it.
for the open water events you don't need as many officials as with two pools, but you need a body of water to be shut down for a week. it would be fun to have such a meet, but not sure it can be at the same time as the pool worlds.
this year in sweden they will have a 10km on friday, 1km sprint on sat and a 3km on sunday at the vansbro weekend.

In my opinion you wouldn't want both at the same time. Maybe have the open water worlds in odd years.
If USMS have a National 10km, 5km and 3 Km Open Water event. Why can't we have these distance in a World Master Open water championship? Open water swimmers don't like to go to a World Master Championship event for only ONE open water 3km.

Yeah How about just a World Open water master championship on the odd year for World Master championship. Just open water with several distance 10km one day maybe 3km, 5km and 1km and a Huge party after all.
I know Florida organize an Open Water Festival in June. Its a 3 days weekend of fun, fast swimming. Lets organize a FINA World Master Open water Event.
10Km is an olympic event, Open water is growing not only in the USA in the entire World.
