Fins

I know they just test marketed all these various fins but I still have a question. Whenever I use fins I get bad leg craps and pain in the front/side of my shins and foot pain. Has anyone ever experienced this? And tried a different fin? a shorter one. Mine seem to be a medium lenght. Any recommendations?

I used red zoomers up until about my early 30s. They turned my feet into hamburger, so I went to blue. They were more comfortable, but the only thing that got of the blisters was neoprene socks (the Speedos are my favorite). I still have the blue ones but rely on my Z2s more these days. As for cramps, the only time I get them is if I go from a pull set directly into sprint free, but some of my students do. All I can say there is to stretch your legs and arches before and during practice. Wish I could be of more help.

I love my Hydro Finz. These guys: www.swimandtri.com/.../prodView.asp I used zoomers before that, I like Hydrofinz a lot more. They are a bit softer then zoomers, and give my legs more of a workout when I want a leg workout. I'm not prone to leg cramps so I can't be of a lot of help there beyond the general advice (don't get dehydrated and similar). In my case shin and other aches and pains for the most part go away with enough training and strengthening the weaker parts. How long have you been using fins? Are you experiencing occasional discomfort or excessive aches and pains? Are you thinking you may be heading towards injuring yourself?
  • I have a question too. I use the Speedo Biofuse fins. I got these last year. I really wish this article had come then. I've found them a bit heavy. Anyway, lately I've noticed on my left foot, when I bring my toes back towards my shin, that the top of my foot tingles and occasionally has little, stabby pains. I'm thinking maybe a pinched nerve? I really notice it right after I take my fins off. What do you guys think?
