ISHOF

I just saw at the Swimming World website that the International Swimming Hall of Fame is planning a $71 million renovation,if they can raise the money.Count me in when the fund raising starts.I went to visit there last year and while the pools were nice the actual Hall of Fame was a huge disappointment. It reminded me more of my attic(lots of old stuff strewn around with little regard for order)instead of a sparkling representative of our wonderful sport.

I've been to the HOF pool so many times swimming in college... but never did go through the actual hall of fame. From the sound of it though it's better i wait anyways? :)
  • US Masters Swimming is a big supporter of the ISHOF The ISHOF also hosts the annual induction ceremony for the IMSHOF (International Masters Swimming Hall of Fame). This year it was held in conjunction with our annual convention in Dallas, Texas. USMS members Rich Burns and Lois Kivi Nochman were inducted. If you ever have the opportunity to visit the ISHOF in Fort Lauderdale, be sure to introduce yourself to CEO Bruce Wigo. Bruce loves Masters swimmers and the contributions they have made to the ISHOF! The IMHOF Ceremony at convention was fabulous! So many of us were able to attend and watch our friends inducted. Lois and Rich both recognized their coaches (Skip Thompson and Marie McSweeney) and many competitors from years past. I could have listened to the swim stories all night... but Mark Gill was there to very graciously keep the ceremony moving!

US Masters Swimming is a big supporter of the ISHOF in a couple of different ways. First, USMS is the only aquatic NGB that sends an annual donation to the ISHOF based on its annual membership figures. This year USMS will send $0.25 per member to the ISHOF; next year that number will increase to $0.35 per member. At the end of each membership year, USMS sends a check to the ISHOF based on the total number of members for that year. Second, USMS makes it very easy for its members to make additional donations to the ISHOF. When you renew your USMS membership in December, you can add a contribution to ISHOF. Our online registration system has a line where you can add a donation; our paper membership forms do, as well. 100% of the contributions that are made through our registration system are forwarded to the ISHOF on a monthly basis. The ISHOF is very supportive of our organization, too. You may not realize that the USMS archives are all housed in the library at the ISHOF. The USMS History & Archives committee has purchased several filing cabinets to house all sorts of documents, including old newsletters, rule books, Top Ten listings, and meet programs.
