I heard through a friend on Facebook, who has connections to Conventionites, that the full body suits may be crawling out of their graves to stalk the earth once more?
Rumor has it that a fringe group from California has proposed this, and that the swim suit manufacturers smell money in the water, and that the USMS politboro smells money in the feverish sweat of the swim suit manufacturers.
Is any of this true?
Discuss amongst yourselves in as lively and as incendiary a way as possible!
Okay so I'm wrong again. I guess I'll just go back to lurking since I am sooo stupid all the time :(
Not stupid. But if you want to influence rules and direction of USMS, why not get yourself elected to HoD (whatever), so *your* voice is heard?
:)
Please don't joke around about zombies in thread titles. I was freaked.
so then the zombie says to the nun, "same price as in town!"
hey, he didn't say anything about joking around inside posts
Rumor has it FINA is to reintroduce full body suits in 2032. They are to be made of a new super fibre spun from stainless steel. They are guaranteed to be rust resistant, water proof and do not help with bouyancy.
I don't really care either way. I was just commenting on the situation.
I like my Nero a lot, it works to cammoflage my oversized and flabby middle-aged physique but my tank works fine too.
I think it's so funny that so many people who really don't even swim in meets care so much about this issue.
Their old times don't hold up as well in comparison. Maybe they don't have the time to practice or compete as much, but for personal or historical reasons want to see times only improve through means other than suit technology (or less dramatic suit advances). I don't have a problem with non-active people who are vocal about it.
Summary of results from a poll conducted by the Virginia LMSC....
There were 184 responses to the survey. Of the respondents, 15% approved of the idea of allowing the suits in SCY meets, while 76% disapproved; the statistical margin of error in these numbers is about 7%. The disapproval rate is virtually identical among swimmers who identified themselves as regular or prospective participants in
USMS competitions.

I will leave the rule-making to those of you who have a voice.
I think that, as a whole, the pool of USMS volunteers that "have a voice" are more likely to be competitors than the general membership. I have heard that 25-30% of them compete, and I would bet the number is significantly higher among the HOD.
People who compete generally tend to be the ones who get involved in the volunteering aspect. (Certainly there are many exceptions.)
Your larger point is a good one, in that the viewpoints of the HOD on many issues -- especially long-time members -- might not always represent those of the typical USMS member. Always something to keep in mind.

This seems to me to be smacking of some sort of brilliance, but I just can't quite grasp what it is.
Would you explain and/or give some context for those of us not quite so quick on the uptake as perhaps we need to be?
