My family and I are going to Japan next year and are starting to get things in order. Any recommendations for hotels in Tokyo and Kyoto that might have pools??
And let's already weed out the hotel from Lost in Translation. $1000 a night is not really in our budget.
I spent a semester in Tokyo in grad school, back in 1996, and swam at a couple pools there--
Yoyogi Sports Complex: site of the 1964 Olympics
Yotsuya Swimming Complex
Both had LCM pools, and were rather reasonably priced for swimming. I think around $5-7.
At the Yoyogi pool, the setup was rather odd. 2 lanes were setup for laps, but it was all one lane down, the other back. Or you could take your chances in the open area... I used paddles once and the lifeguards freaked out.
Bring a cap! Most pools will require you wear one. Also, most enforce the shower before entering pool policy. And no wrapping a towel around your waist.
I also swam in Sapporo, Hiroshima, Fukuoaka, but I can't remember the names of those pools. I went to the beach at Karatsu (on Kyushu) and Yokohama (near Tokyo).
Sorry I don't have more current info, but I'm curious if/how things have changed.
