Swimming Zen Moments

I haven't been able to lift due to some computer work I've been doing for my roommate and his band. So I've been on a pseudo-taper even though I haven't cut the yardage at all for swimming - but I haven't lifted very hard since Saturday (7/24). Since about 4-5 days into my "taper" I've been swimming SIGNIFICANTLY (~10%) faster than I usually do. Well - last night made it a full week since my last *real* lift. Anyway - last night we were doing a sprint set, and the part we were on at the moment was 6x50. I did the first two 50s decently, I was barely ahead of most of the "slow group" (as I call the lanes that are on the same intervals as I am). I pushed off for the 3rd and cramped up. So I went back to the wall and stretched out waiting to jump back on the interval. I'm not sure what happened on that fourth 50, but I felt like I flew through the water. I didn't have the sense of mind to keep track of my time; when I hit the wall and looked around, there was NO ONE close. Granted - they were probably getting tired, and I was relatively fresh with that kind of rest... What the heck happened there? Has anyone else had one of these Zen moments while swimming?

  • What the heck happened there? Has anyone else had one of these Zen moments while swimming? YES!!! :bliss: I thought it was at Sunday's meet when I took 21/2 - 31/2 seconds off each of my PB breaststroke times. I was feeling pretty good then. But, today, I took another second off my 200 breaststroke- but with an IN WATER start. So, take another 4 seconds off for a block start (that seems to be about right for me) and that's a total of five seconds off Sunday's personal best time! I can't explain it; I couldn't believe what I saw when I looked at my time. And, I even felt like I had more left in the tank. My only hope is that I feel this way at the next meet that counts! :D
