Hi everyone, im new to the forum, so im sorry if this is in the wrong section. My 50m breaststroke time is 41.07(i kno, slow) and i have to get my time faster than 40.19 within about three days. does anyone have any tips on how to do this? and also, my friend, who is very good at breaststroke, said that you should shoot your arms out really fast into the streamline position BEFORE you put your face in the water, as this creates a current that drags you along. Is this true? Thank you to everyone, and again, sorry if this is in the wrong section.
I have the same question.
I'd like to have a faster breaststroke, except my schedule is "in my lifetime" ...
Me too!!! Sometimes, I don't think I'm coordinated enough to swim breaststroke!!!:frustrated: Sometimes, I just fall out of time for some reason.
My biggest issue is keeping my knees together. I have some pretty strong hip adductors (I currently do 3x12 of 190 lbs), so its annoying to keep my legs together like I'm supposed to.
I tried doing the drill where you hold the pull buoy in between your legs as you *** stroke kick - yeah - totally didn't work at all.

And let me guess, you tried it once, it was a disaster and you gave up?
Making a change is not a 1 day, 1 week or even one month thing. It's a 3-6 month long process of every day. So go back to it and yes, for the first week or two it's going to suck but you will slowly change to not-quite-as-much-suck and then to -almost-doesn't-suck and then ????
Yes,shoot your arms out fast on the recovery.I am not sure about any "current",but you want to be streamlined before you begin your kick for maximum distance.Go to http://www.breaststroke.info/ for some great tips.

AH! My ruse has been discovered! :bolt:
No seriously - I actually am trying to get back to it more often. Its become a game the past couple weeks of "When can I get in the pool for more than half an hour?"
Listen to Allen! I've seen him swim *** stroke and he's the real deal!
I'll second that!
P.S. Read "The Breaststroke Lane" thread!!! Allen's words of breaststroke wisdom are there.
