Last year USA Swimming past a rule in paragragh 102.9.1 A it states "Swimwear shall include only a swimsuit, cap and goggles." I use a poly cap on my head then put my goggles on then place a silicon cap over it for competition. It helps hold the goggles in place and prevent the silicon cap from pulling my hair. It is more of a comfort thing.
I was told by a referee that this is illegal and could cost a DQ in the event. It is a confusing rule probably because I cannot understand it and there is another rule for Open Water that specifically states you can have 2 swim caps when swimming open water.
I wanted to see if others experienced this and if so, what were your alternatives? I like to continue to where a poly and a silicon but if not, I need an alternative.
Thanks!

:afraid: I don't think this is the case for USMS or several Top Ten swimmers would have been DQ'd at Nationals.
As for me, wearing two caps is the only way to keep my goggles in place going off the blocks, even if I do have my head and arms in proper position. My face is next to impossible when it comes to getting goggles to fit properly and stay in place...
Why not just wear goggles under a single cap?
By the way, the current wording of the USMS rule matches the USAS rule. See www.usms.org/.../20100119swimsuits.pdf

The strap seems to hold better over a cap, rather than over my hair. I have found with my size head that adult caps are too large, but Jr. caps are too tight. Two caps keeps everything in place just right!
At USA-S Jr/Sr Champ this past weekend several kids we wearing 2 caps. They had their team cap, goggles and then the new racing caps on. None of them were DQd over it.

I also don't like how the goggle straps pull on my hair.
I specifically asked Kathy Casey(USMS Rules Chair) this and she said 2 caps were OK.
:applaud: :applaud: :applaud: Thanks, Allen! I figured it was, because Ande recommends it and does it himself- including at Nationals.
