Still no sign of my magazine.
I receive at least 6 other magazines per month, some in plastic wrap and some not. Even for those that are not in wrap, I've never had repeated issues with the magazines being torn or unisable.
Furthermore, for every other magazine I receive, I have the option to cancel and get my money back if I'm not satisfied. All of these other magazines will extend the subscription for no additional charge to me.
If I didn't need USMS insurance to swim with a team, I'd have canceled my membership years ago. I just don't understand why the magazine is bundled together with insurance. Especially when it never lives up to it's end of the cost (arriving in a readable condition, on-time, and arriving at all).
Why in this day with a robust USMS website do we even need a hard copy magazine?
I can understand the frustration from those whose magazines arrive late, damaged, etc. But I have to imagine all of the magazines are dropped off to the USPS in identical condition at the exact same time. If Swimmer Sally gets her magazine faster than Swimmer Steve, and Backstroke Betty's magazine is always torn - it sounds to me like you need to address these issues with the US Postal Service and not USMS (Laura).
I don't know for sure, but I'm sure it is highly unlikely that Laura decides to put aztimm's label on a torn magazine each time before sending it. I would first check with others in your region (LMSC) to see if you are the only one having problems or if it is widespread. If you're the only one, then check with your mail carrier/local Post Office. If it is widespread in your LMSC, well, you'll have to look further up the USPS regional chain.
I make these comments unofficially since I have nothing to do with the magazine. But I'm a Registrar and I've dealt with USPS issues over the years mailing registration cards (for instance, when somebody's card arrives mutilated - guess what, I didn't do it before putting it in the mail so what do you expect me to do about it?!).

I am the outgoing newsletter editor for SPMA. I have been doing this job for 9 years. This past year has been the most frustrating ever. SPMA, along with Pacific, put the local newsletter as an insert in USMS Swimmer (about 15,000 members, or ~30% of USMS membership). So when the July/Aug issue, which I turned in my copy in the middle of MAY, doesn't arrive until July 27th, it makes much of the content (e.g., meet information) out of date.
My SWIMMER magazine finally arrived today. It was in perfect condition (no rips or tears), but as you say, much of the PacMasters meet info is now out-of-date.
I love the cartoon of me in this issue. It's the one in the tech suit last year & NOW without it this year ! How did they get the photos of me ??:confused:

Someone wanted a monthly magazine. No thanks! We don't need to double the amount of threads with daily updates from people not getting their magazine on time!! ;) :bliss:
For the record, I have no idea if I have or have not received mine. I hardly have a chance to read them anyways.
My copy arrived in great condition last week. I like how much better the magazine has gotten over the years.
Just a quick rant. If a person doesn't like the magazine or find value in their membership, then drop it. Go swim on your own and quit complaining about the value of usms.
They provide a great magazine. They have a great group leading from the top and some really good events for members to attend. If you don't like it, leave.
