You KNOW you're hooked on swimming when...

1. You open the door to the pool and get that first whiff of chlorine and think to yourself, "I love the smell of chlorine in the morning!" 2. Your new issue of Swimmer Magazine arrives :bliss: and you immediately sit down and read it cover to cover (including the ads!). But, then, the realization sets in that now you have to wait two months until the NEXT issue arrives. 3. You find yourself counting strokes instead of sheep to fall asleep at night. Then, just when you're about to fall asleep, instead of your leg twitching a little bit, it does a full whip kick :afraid:, and you ride the glide to slumberland... :bed: Now it's your turn...
  • Some of us perversely like both breaststroke and butterfly. Here's to having your left and right side doing the same thing at the same time! I do enjoy going infrognito and racing against breaststrokers, particularly in the 200. I've given a few of them decent chase. If I can keep improving my technique, I might even beat some of them.
  • *** is the blue comic sans of swimming. Yay! Hooray!
  • I resemble that remark, but I'm not going to do anything about it except turn up the volume. In all honesty, I am envious of flyers! :applaud: I can swim fly and swim the 100 IM as my 5th-best event, however, my kick strength still leaves a lot to be desired... And, my 50 fly time is the same as my breaststroke PB. :cane: Turn up the volume, That Guy; flyers rock!

I have the recurring dream about swimming in the air. In the dream I somehow get myself into "the zone" where it's possible. My stroke is usually breaststroke pull w/ dolphin kick, sometimes it's pure fly. Usually I fly around tree-top height and it is very empowering even though I am not at bird or airplane speeds. Then, I slip from the zone and gradually lose altitude and land, then can't figure out how to fly again for a while. Another variation is just where I have a very impressive vertical leap which I have to delicately hone into the zone by starting with gentle bounces then gradually increasing power. Flying always involves finesse not brute strength. A few times I've had the shallow water dream. I usually end up scrambling on all fours across the pool but at least I got to float. In one shallow water dream, I finished a 50 free in 12 seconds. Got out of the pool and people were staring at me. They said I had just smashed a world record. Pretty clear that was just a dream. :)

I have seen TGs BR and it is very good.He has awesome pullouts. It is surprising he does so well given those skinny arms and legs and the problems streamlining that big head.

Thank you Allen, you are too kind. Diving off the blocks, turning, pushing off the wall, pulling down with the arms, and taking my one precious dolphin kick are the things in a breaststroke race that I can do decently well. The rest of the time, I am just pretending to know what I am doing, and hoping that the next wall arrives quickly. :D

  • I actually enjoy the technical aspects of swimming breaststroke. My problem is the next wall never arrives quickly at all. S
