Hy-tek TM 4.0 and Vista?

Hopefully someone out there will be able to help me... I have been running Hy-tek's TM 4.0 on my computer since 2006 to manage the high school team that I coach. Sadly, my laptop died a few weeks before the end of our last season (we're a fall sport in Idaho). I installed the program on my new laptop, which runs Vista, and could not get it to work. The program installs, but when I tried to run it, I got errors messages galore. I managed to get through the rest of the season on a borrowed computer. Now that school is finally out for the summer, and I have some spare time, I decided to tackle it again. I uninstalled and re-installed the program with the same results -- several times. I contacted Hy-tek and was informed that as of Jan 1, they no longer offer support for TM 4.0. Lovely. I was also informed that since I had ordered the label upgrade in 2007, that I should have the version of TM 4.0 that works on Vista. I am very frustrated at this point. Has anyone else been able to run TM 4.0 with Vista? Hy-tek is being very unhelpful. They just keep telling me that I can order the newest upgrade for only $125. What a bargain -- for software that originally cost less than $70. Thanks for any advice, Kristi

  • Hey Kristi, It took me a while, but I finally was able to find someone who had posted the Team Manager 4 lite installer (the free one). I installed it on my Win 7 laptop, and so while Win 7 isn't Vista, they share enough of the same codebase that it should work. Sure enough, when I ran the shortcut, I got lots of cryptic messages and it eventually crashed. What I wound up doing is running the program as administrator. The usual way to do this in Vista/Win 7 is to right click the application in question, and select "Run as administrator". But the TM shortcut on the desktop doesn't have that option. So if you can't do that, do this instead: 1. Right click your Team Manager shortcut on your desktop (or where ever it is), and select "Properties". 2. Choose the "Compatibility" tab. 3. Near the bottom, in the "Privilege level" area, check the "Run this program as an administrator" checkbox (highlighted in attached screenshot). Then click OK. 4. Now try running the program this time. It should work (and don't forget to run the update feature in the program!). If for some reason you can't find this checkbox option, you can navigate to c:\program files\swim team manager 4.0 (c:\program files (x86)\swim team manager 4.0 on a 64 bit computer). Then right click the "TM4.exe" application, and select "Run as administrator". Hopefully this works for you. If not, send me an email, and I can see about coming up with something else. Patrick King
