You asked earlier about why I want to break out the answers to the "poll" questions. It is simple. Just like in a research paper, the author starts out with a particular hypothesis. The research either confirms that hypothesis or not.
I suspect that the majority of obsessive swimmers would want the suits. A smaller majority of competitive swimmers would also want the suits. Triathletes.......I have no clue. Fitness swimmers, I suspect a majority would not want the suits. Those are just my guesses and I might be totally wrong.
That's what I figured, and while I find these interesting questions and speculations, addressing them wouldn't be MY main purpose in a poll. (Of course, if it happens, the rest of the LMSC board will get their say too.) The purpose drives the questions, as you might imagine.
My main purposes would be (a) to assess the potential impact on participation in SCY, SCM and LCM meets and (b) to assess how much impact having the suit (or not) would have on enjoyment of the sport.
To elaborate on (b)...I suspect those "obsessive" people you comment about will compete whether or not the suit is legal, but they may not like it as much. So banning the suit would not impact the participation of those people but I still want them to get have their "say," so to speak. A quality of life type of thing.
