I have been using the standard Speedo mesh swim bag. But I think they generally suck.
The string/rope rots after less than a year.
Sometimes the spring in the rope clamp rusts
The fabric of course rots before too long
The id label area isn't visible for long when written with a permanent marker
My bag stays at the pool - outdoors - all the time. It holds fins, pull buoy, paddles, snorkel, and kickboard.
Are there any bags that will last more than a year in use like this?
I have the opposite experience. We have three Speedo Deluxe Mesh Equipment Bags in use at our house daily. They contain the same gizmos as yours and hang in the garage. I can't wear them out. Mine got funky once when I left it in my trunk but a little bit of bleach sorted that out.
I'm the same as Geek. Mine hangs in the garage. My last one was 5 years old and was still going strong until I joined a new team and they gave me one withe the team logo on it. It is the Speedo Deluxe one. The marker has lasted well (it has to since all of us have the same bag and almost the same gear!) and the whole bag looks brand new.
Try hanging yours inside or keeping it in your car.

The exposure to sunlight is causing the nylon to break down. If you are going to store the bags outside, you will have this problem with all nylon bags.

I don't know how long they'll last but I now have a couple of mesh bags that my blueseventy tech suits used to reside in. :D
I've stored the suits themselves away for an unknown period of time. :badday:

Mine is just a plain old nylon mesh laundry bag - not sure if I got it at Container Store or just at the grocery store. Probably no different from Speedo in terms of fabric used. It has a nylon webbing loop.
It has lasted longer than I can remember.
Generally I keep it in the back of my Honda CRV.
I do not drag it along the pool deck like kids do with theirs. I always carry it.
I try to keep it relatively dry. I give the fins etc a shake before I bag them; and the bag goes on a bench or hook, not on the pool deck. That way I don't get the clothes I'm wearing wet while carrying the mesh bag over my shoulder.
I also think dragging a wet equipment bag on our pool lobby's tile floors is a safety issue creating a slipping hazard.

It just seems like they should be able to make a bag that lasts outside. I want to leave my bag at the pool. All the age groupers do at my pool. Mine doesn't even sit in direct sun. But the weather/sun just kills 'em.
(on really cold days in the winter it can freeze at the side of the pool when I'm swimming)
I don't want it in my car because I'm not going to put a dripping wet bag in my car.
I'll stop. I don't want to whine!
Mine is also 5 years old. It hangs in the garage after every workout (its hot in there durnig the South Texas summer), and is still going strong! :fish2:
