How about Rebecca Soni's 104.93 in 100m breaststroke?Smoking for sure. Amanda Beard's 1:07+ was interesting moreso for what it possibly portends for her 200. I think she was 1:09 something at Nationals in the 100. I doubt she'll seriously challenge Soni, but I bet her 200's going to be pretty sweet. Pretty darn excellent for ~1 year post-kid, IMHO.
ps the American commentary is hilarious
Between US Nationals and Pan Pacs, I've lost count of how many times the swimnetwork.com guy has completely lost it. "WHOA DID YOU SEE THAT?!?!? HAHAHAHAHAH!!!"
Tonight I've only caught a couple races but he's badly misread times twice - he yelled "56!!!" at the end of the women's 100 fly consol, and then corrected himself "58.26." He did it again in the women's 200 back consol, exclaiming "2:05... er, 2:08.05." These are non-trivial differences.
She was 4:10-low on the last 400 of her 800, so I would think she would go a little faster than 4:08, even as a prelim swim. History has shown that attempting to be logical with Kate Ziegler's split times is a futile exercise. When she broke the 1500 world record in 2007 she was faster on the 800 split than she was in the individual 800 just two days prior at the same meet. She is one of those swimmers that can go close to full speed at rhythm and just maintain it. One of the issues for her in 2008 was shortening of her stroke trying to get the speed for the 400 and down to the 200 for a spot on the relay. That in turn may have hurt her in the longer distances where she really needed that longer stroke for pacing it to the rhythm best suited for her. I think she should just focus on the 800 (and 1500 for worlds) and look at the 400 as a bonus.

I think they should borrow the USMS Nationals commentator (I forgot his name) for the meets. He was a hoot! :lmao: Even my husband, a non-swimmer, enjoyed going to Nationals just so he could be entertained by that guy! :D
