What a great post. You are right! Before tech suits, I had never seen an elite swimmer, get emotional, scream, cry, and get on top of the lane lines after a swim. Thank goodness for tech suits. Golly, now with the ban we will never see such emotion. Wook-a ding-dong, you're the best. Your pal Maybe you should try reading the post again. I never said they didn't get emotional before the suits. I asked if the swimmers hate the suits so much, make claims that the suit was worth " half-second to 3 seconds" then why do they get so worked up over setting records while wearing them. That is a very legitimate question. Now, please return to your normal cranky-pants self.
  • That's 80% of the reason I don't like them. Then add the crazy high cost (for me) + the time wasted reserching which one to choose, and you have my next 20% I think similarly. Plus I find them awfully inconvenient at meets (more planning needed to set aside time to put them on, when I'd rather be in the warmup pool concentrating on my race) and also an additional source of anxiety (due to potential suit malfunctions).
  • i hate people who hate people who hate tech suits..... why? tune in tomorrow........... ..... as Chaos attempts a rare quadruple negative with a half twist, degree of difficulty 3.3 ....
  • Too many haters around here..... OK I can do this...deep breath... here we go At no time there weren't no non-haters not being unhelpful without this failthread's non-debate not regarding the techsuit non-issue. * :cheerleader: YEAH!!! DECTUPLE-NEGATIVE!!! :cheerleader: * Don't ask me for a translation... I don't know what I said either. I may have just declared war on Uranus for all I know.
  • The simplest of facts are that: a) we (USMS) don't have any say about the general rule that was passed by FINA, and b) the rule will exist until at least 2013. No number of studies, boycotts or other social actions will change it. It is also unlikely that, no matter how poetic or outraged posters get on this forum, FINA will notice. Now, how about some old fashioned advice from one to another about backstroke breakouts or butterfly timing? I take this as another "shut up," which I will happily ignore if I choose. :)

Like them or hate them, tech suits have damages the reputation of swimming in the mind of the John or Jane Q. Public. For the good of the sport, I'm glad they're going away. Care to provide evidence to your statement?

So you're going to have a camp of people who think that training and talent alone should be the determining factors, and another camp who don't have a problem with technology also playing a significant role. At this point, the first camp of people have won their case (particularly on the men's side of things). There isn't really a right or wrong here. That's 80% of the reason I don't like them. Then add the crazy high cost (for me) + the time wasted reserching which one to choose, and you have my next 20%
