Is it scary that I know more than one of these guys?!:censor: That was my thought. I know someone on the list too. Very disheartening.

Right now there is NOTHING keeping these individuals from taking their "coaching skills" to masters swimming. Swimmers at any level and in any branch of the sport need to REPORT questionable behavior. Sadly, there are probably many others still cleverly out there on pool decks. No kidding. Its through masters that I recognized someone on that list. I swam on relays with that person.

My understanding is that in some states DWI it is a automatic felony while in others it is not. I suppose I think that it should be but that really is beside the point: It seems silly that you can be kicked out of swim coaching for life (based on the felony provision listed in the rules) if you get a DWI in one state but not in another state. I think the rules should the rules be more specific. I also would add that a DWI doesn't prevent you from becoming President of the United States. But that is another story.

One could argue that if someone lives in a state where DWI is a felony, they should take the ability to coach into consideration prior to driving drunk. In a state where it isn't a felony well then there's a little leeway as far as keeping a coaching job for USAS rules. I'd expect that many clubs may penalize or terminate a coach that gets a DWI or similar offense regardless of felony status. FWIW i'd bet the majorty of those on this list are included on sexual based offenses rather than a felony DWI or similar, less severe, felony conviction.
  • there is at least one person on the banned list that is competing and calling themselves a us master coach. To be absolutely supportive of banning these perpetrators from swimming for life I think that should include masters swimming. People need to know that if they abuse children there is no safe place any where ever again!!!!! I agree 100% with you here Lisa, but not everyone does... I was shocked to hear and read comments from swimmers stating masters swimmers are adults and can say no. And also, that their "crimes" called out in relation to the USA-Swimming's code of conduct are not applicable to masters swimming. Lets' have a look at our own USMS Coaches Code of Conduct. Or perhaps since we're all adults and "safe", we don't need one... Sheez.
  • Lets' have a look at our own USMS Coaches Code of Conduct. If the Masters Coach is an ASCA member they sign a Code of Ethics agreement upon joining and every year after at renewal. Up to now there has been no USMS Coaches COC. I'm hoping it will be part of the certification process coming from the Coaches Committee and ASCA.

Castration is not enough punishment for these types...An island somewhere where they have no possiblity of swimming back to the mainland would be a start...Our kids and our friends deserve better!!!
