Rumor has it that there will be a push at convention to get the Tech Suits legalized for SCYBefore any decision is made I think we forumites should provide our wise counsel.I have been marginally anti-tech suits(I am also maginally anti-SCY,vastly prefering LCM),but if legalizing them will get more elite USA-S swimmers at our meets it may be worth it.
What do you think.
Editing to remove snarky comment. I just want this to end. I have to say I was a little depressed to hear that the suits may live on. If they do, that's the end of SCY swimming for me...
dare to dream! :)
FINA needs the money that the sponsors(suit makers for one) put into the sport.
Once they have better rules in place in regards to material, bodysuits of some kind will return.
One aspect that shouldn't be overlooked is that if the tech suits are brought back for SCY then USMS will be responsible for setting standards and testing suits for compliance. However little respect one has for FINA, I think their experience with trying to regulate the evolution of tech suits indicates that this is no easy or inexpensive task.
Unlike the majority, I've only competed this recent year so my vote wouldn't really be conclusive unless there was a neutral option. But I do support a modified class of swimming competition (SCY) that allows the suits. On the same token I would also support including 25 yard sprint events.
