The Athlete Village will be at Nationals, so it got me thinking about having my breaststroke analyzed. Have you had this done? Do you recommend it? Does The Athlete Village do the filming at Nationals? If they do the filming, how much does it cost?
Ande and Allen, my two mentors on the forums: What do you think? Is there a better use of my money or is this $ well spent?
Anybody else out there who has an opinion to offer on this, I would appreciate your advice!
Thanks!

I had stroke analysis done by Athlete Village and it was great. Really neat to get technical feedback from underwater. The first time I had any underwater analysis done was 30 years ago at a swim camp at Hobart University in New York. This has come a long way. Marc and his coaches at A.V. are super!

Thanks, Marc, that sounds great. Once answer you missed: Which event would you video and analyze: 50, 100, or 200 breaststroke? Would the choice be mine?
Woops, missed that one. It is totally up to you. We typically limit you on a full race analysis to a 200. Maybe for you the 100 would be a good choice. We could see you in fast sprint mode, and by lap 4, we should be able to pick up what happens as you fatigue (not that you will fatigue, I am sure you will have a great finish!). Anything longer than a 200, and the video files get huge.
We do have custom capabilities as well. For example, we are doing the official race analysis at the 10 k USA Open Water National Championships in June. www.pacificopenwater.com/open-water-swimming-conference
Come on Marc, can't you do analysis of the Bay Swim? Its right in your back yard. I'd like a full 4.4 mile analysis. You better have a pretty good camera to see through all of that murky water!
Keith,
Unfortunately we are booked the weekend of the Bay Swim. We will come and tape you next year.
Elaine,
Looking forward to meeting you at the pool this weekend. If you are interested in underwater video, I would suggest that you use our standard stroke analysis product. This is only $49.99. There are a few options to get the underwater footage.
1) You can grab an inexpensive underwater camera such as Kodak PlaySport HD Waterproof Pocket Video Camera.
2) We can video you from underwater at the meet (in the warm down pool if there is some quiet time).
3) If you have a group that is interested in video, we can send out a team to come video your entire team.
4) We can mail you an underwater camera to use at your convenience, and you send it back when you are done.
Tom,
I am really sorry for the delay. You were part of a large group of orders (over 150 analyses came in over a one week period), and unfortunately, yours was the last one on the list. Please check your email for details. As you know, we have a 100% Satisfaction guarantee. Details are in the email. Thanks for your patience. You are going to love your analysis. Once you have a chance to see what it is all about, please come back to the forum and share your thoughts.
Marc, thanks for the suggestions. I'll think it over and see you on Friday. :)
Nope, I won't think it over anymore. My husband (who has been following this whole thread at my request) says, "JUST DO IT!" :D He's not even a swimmer but is TOTALLY supportive. :bliss: He's even going to sit in the stands for three days straight! :applaud:
So, Marc, sign me up! :agree:
thanks Marc
not looking for the offered refund, seek the video/analysis
spent a lot of time on your site before I purchased, so would like to follow through
having a response time issue myself
my credit card was charged 9 days ago, the analysis was promised last week, but still no word
they have not replied to an email of mine either
another option....goswim video analysis
Here's the scoop: I decided to have The Athlete Village film my 200 breaststroke, because this is the event I would like to get best at in breaststroke. Unfortunately, by Sunday, I was a mess from lack of good sleep; mostly because of my exposure to the heat/humidity at the pool. I have medical issues with that (heat intolerance...), so it caught up with me. No excuses; I beat my seed time, but my arms and legs felt like I had weights strapped to them by the halfway mark and my stroke and turns fell apart. Uggghhh; I had been doing better in practice... :badday:
Anyway, the analysis is complete. See it and judge for yourself whether it was worth it for me to have it done. Personally, I feel it was! The only thing missing was advice on how to make my starts better off the blocks, before I hit the water. I may have had a quick start, but I KNOW my hips aren't getting up and my left leg drags...

Make sure to watch the short tutorial so you understand how the software works. It is a MUST to listen to the commentary; otherwise you'll lose too much. (If you use AOL like I do and can't hear the commentary, access The Athlete Village website via the web-based AOL or use Internet Explorer.)
I will be curious to hear your feedback on the video analysis! And, any feedback on my stroke (other than what the coach already told me) would be appreciated. Just don't laugh, ok? Remember, I'm a newbie (February 2010)! :D :bliss:
I haven't had the opportunity to do this yet but I happened to be sitting near the Athlete Village for the meet and was surprised at all the heartfelt praise by those who had done it. Some people were actually selling the idea to their friends as they walked up to the booth. I heard enough to make me want to give it a try--when I get back in shape and can send in some decent video!
