during the last 6 moths I have been working hardcore on my 50s, (I used to work mostly 100-200-400, many 50s but almost never did them fully rested)
So my workouts have been about the same time-length, but with less meters, I have been doing lots of 25s, 50s, 75s, very few 200, and rarely 400+ (just for warm up)
last month I started with my old workouts again (traininng for the 200 free/IM, and 400 free/IM (after dropping 1 sec in my 50 free and 2 sec in my 50 fly)
Today I timed my 200 free and the time was pretty bad, I timed 2: 16 high
This month, last year, my time was about 2:09-2:10
So my 50 free is 1 sec faster (about 26 high, used to be 28), and my 200 free is 7 sec slower...:bitching:
My splits are always almost even, +-1 sec, the last one was 34..something each.
well, I race the 200, not the 50 free. So, more than an accomplishment, is a warning for other people, improving your 50, doesn't always translates into a faster 200, is not a split problem, I just lost conditioning (legs, etc).
I can relate. I switched teams (I practice with an age group team) and my sprints are getting better but my distance, which I love so much has gotten worse. I'm out of luck with teams so I am just enjoying the sprints while I can and hoping that my distance will come back and soon!
