Hate to say it but to me this seems kind of silly. Being part of the cap clique doesn't do much for me.
Each person has their own goals, plans, motivations, & reasons.
Tap into that!
That is a good motivator. Maybe Masters teams should have similar motivators. I know adult motivation comes from within, certainly mine, but outside influences still get in the head of us "grown ups".
I think this would be good. If you don't make a certain practice times your coach thinks you should, you can't wear the team's cap in meets.
