Local swim sensation, 14 year old Missy Franklin, tore it up at a sectionals meet in Federal Way last night. 47.94 for the 100 free and 1:51.07 for the 200 back. I can't wait to see how she does in the rest of the meet.
If those times were for meters they wouldn't be around world record times, they would obliterate world record times.
100 free SCM WR is 51.01
200 back SCM WR is 2:00.18
The American Records in these two events (SCY) are 46.85 and 1:49.53 both by Natalie Coughlin, by the way.

I'll now reset my 100 free goal for Masters Nationals and concede defeat by a 14 year old girl before I even jump in for my 200 back. :afraid:
Katie Ledecky dropped a 17:06 1650 at PVS Senior Champs yesterday.
That's slightly more than a 1:02/100 pace.
Oh yeah, she's TWELVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would have loved to have seen that swim.
She finished 2nd behind some girl named Zeigler. Um, I think her first name was Kate or Katie or something.
I wasn't swimming this event until I was 13. Nowadays, kids are doing the 200 fly at 10, etc. I wish that I was able to start these events before 13.
That is amazing time for a 12 to 17 year old. Heck, I was pretty happy when I did a 17:06 at 17.

Yep, those 13 & 14 year old age groupers :cheerleader:in the next lane keep passing me up at practice! I'ts just starting to get annoying, so I'm working as hard as I can :anim_coffee:(thru injuries) to one day keep up with them!
I do push hard though, because I think it provides them incentive, none of them want to be beat to the wall by the "old guy", :cane:(Yuck!)
I guess it works both ways, they give me incentive to try and keep up.
Georgio :bolt:

Atiba Wade is representing the "old guys" nicely with a first place qualifying time in the 100 *** in prelims today (55.13). He's 32. It doesn't look like he's ever swum masters, though.
For some reason breaststroke seems to be the stroke of choice for the older swimmers at Western Sectionals. In addition to Wade there are 23 and 25 year old men who made the A final, and 23 and 27 year olds in the C final.
