I've just started swimming masters after a couple years off after my highschool team...im kicking myself for not staying in the pool after highschool...But im looking for some good dry land work outs to use, that will go well with my swim workout. Going to be swimming the 100im again in two weeks along with the 50 free, fly,***,and back for the Freeport YMCA Toughen Up Challenge. Any tips on my IM here is a video of it. I know my turns are sloppy it was the first IM ive swam in a while. I am in Lane three. YouTube- 100 IM Husson Master Meet 1/24/2010

  • +1 for Jason Lezak's weight workout. I've tried it (though at a reduced intensity) and I was completely toasted. The basic idea is that you want to train yourself to produce power for one minute, so don't do 10 reps and call it good, do instead the exercise for one minute. Then "superset" and only take 15 seconds rest before going to the next exercise. It is intense, but if you're at a plateau, it will break you through. From the videos I've seen of Jason swimming, he is a very strong guy which is one reason for his great speed. On your turns -- you've got to "bounce" off the wall. Don't look! Bring your body in close to the wall and then establish your streamline before pushing off, then push off slightly down from horizontal. You want to kick hard to get back to the surface, using dolphins for everything except breaststroke where you get only one (and one breaststroke kick, one full pull and then you're up). The turns can really make the 100 IM. You can go up to 15 meters! Best of luck...
