:) Do/Can most Australians swim?

Australians are good swimmers... so how popular is swimming there? If you randomly pick someone from the street in Australia, how likely can he/she swim, or is a good swimmer? My little curiosity :)

Swimming stars there are like USA football & basketball stars ! Unless they lice 1000 miles from the ocean they seem to all swim ! How cool is that !
