Streamlines for Coaches - Butterfly

I have never felt confident coaching butterfly and was excited to read about the West Side Progression for teaching fly in the coaches' newsletter. I started the progression today and my workout group loved it. We only spent about 15 minutes on the first few steps. Several swimmers asked me if we were going to continue Monday and would they miss a lot if they couldn't come. I was amazed and assured them that the progression calls for repeating the steps each time before moving on. I really felt that everyone was eager to move to the next step. I made copies of the drawings on art paper so I could show them what was expected. That seemed to help. • I particular like this quote: "Swimmers have to become aware of their bodies in fly and understand how the power comes from their center, the core and hips, and how the arms and legs each serve special roles. They have to understand that the head is like a designated driver. It wants to party but it can’t." :D
