Check out the youtube video of my latest dry-land obsession. If you have access to a racquetball or squash court, a good bouncy medicine ball and an equally matched training partner give this a try.
YouTube- CORE BALL aka Medicine Ball Racquet Ball
The rules are simple: the ball must hit above the bottom line (6') and it can't bounce more than once. 3 games to five points is a great workout. We've had some individual points last up to 150 tosses. We play with either a 4 or 6 pound ball. There is a fantastic transference of rotational energy from the legs, through the core, to the uppper body.
The best part about this workout is the post-workout meal...Brother's Bar-B-Que. Sign me up.
Mark,
It's defintely a bonus when your training partner owns a chain of BBQ joints.
Fort, come on out here. Freedom Ctr has racket ball courts and I can score a medicine ball from Curl.
You're on! I did 20 minutes of this solo today and it was love at first sight. :)
Leslie,
If your court doesn't have the line @ 6 feet you can use some blue painters tape and remove it when you're done. You'll be surpised at how much of an aerobic component is involved.
By far, the best ball is the First Place Elite. It's very bouncy which makes the game more athletic (more running and faster paced). You can get them at performbetter.com I'd go with the 4 pounder.

That looks insanely fun!
I did a dryland workout on MLK day in the gym that involved tossing a med ball back and forth with a partner. Pretty simple stuff but it was my first time using the balls. Needless to say, my pecs were butt-sore. Everytime I tried to reach my arm around to scratch my back, I had to stop. Made me feel terribly inflexible.
This looks awesome! I want a partner.
Of course, this is a good place to do twisting med ball slams and other med ball work solo too.
