  • TXLA volunteers, This is the first call for volunteers for the Grand Prix March 4 - 6th at the Texas Swim Center. Although Michael Phelps is NOT coming, there will be many pro swimmers here including our Texas Pros: Aaron Peirsol, Garret Weber-Gale, and Eric Shanteau as well as planned swims from Katie Hoff, Caroline Burckle, Margaret Hoelzer, Robert Margalis, Megan Jendrick, Matt Grevers, Christine Magnuson, and Alex and Peter Vanderday. Because this is such a visible meet, I need every volunteer slot filled and I have some people lined up to help, but you, our loyal TXLA volunteers, get first pick. Please know that after Sunday, February 8th, slots will be open to others to help. You may still be able to sign up after Sunday, but there is no guarantee a slot will be open. As an added incentive, for Thursday and Friday, if you work the morning prelim session, you will receive a ticket to attend finals that evening (a 6$ value) in addition to your regular hours. If you have a flexible work schedule, PLEASE consider working Thursday or Friday prelims. Information on the meet is available on our website (under Hosted Meets): www.utexas.edu/.../index.php. It's a good idea to read this document for each meet to become familiar with the meet format, etc. This is true especially if you are new to USA swimming. SIGNUP using SUPERMEETS- the database is available. You can signup to volunteer using our web-based system SuperMeets at: www.supermeets.com/Index.cfm Sign-in using the Upper Right-hand corner. First Time Users: On the Sign-in page, click the link for First Time Users to set-up your Account. The Last name should be the Last Name of your Swimmer/Diver and the team password is “swimfast”. If you trouble please refer to our website for more instructions on signing in and signing up or email me directly: www.utexas.edu/.../status.html JOBS and DESCRIPTIONS A descriptions of volunteer positions can be reviewed here: www.utexas.edu/.../opportunities.html or you can click on a job within SuperMeets and a pop-up will appear with the job description. SOME JOBS NEED TRAINING Clerk of Course and Computer require training before you will be allowed to volunteer for them. Due to the high visibility of this meet, no training will be available. A few odds and ends: * TXLA OFFICIALS. Please register your intent to be on deck by using SuperMeets. This helps facilitate getting your volunteers points recorded. If all the official slots are taken, please email me and I can add more slots. We can always use more officials on deck. * WANT TO BE AN OFFICIAL? South Texas is always looking for volunteers interested in being officials. They have a training requirement also. Look for other information on official training in the next month or so or email South Texas Swimming at stsiofficials@satx.rr.com * TIMERS: In order to be sure you get a spot sign-up via SuperMeets. I will be working hard to fill empty slots with other volunteers. * SYSTEM LOCKS. Sign-up deadline is 3/1 at 11:00 pm. Changes to your schedule after that will have to be emailed to me. * REASSIGNMENT. There are occasions when volunteers may be asked to accept a reassignment. We try not to do this, but sometimes critical positions are not filled. Thanks for allowing the Meet Director this privilege! Thanks for volunteering - see you at the pool, Rhonda
