FINA issued Ruled,www.usms.org/.../showpost.php
Soon the USMS rules committee will issue their ruling.
SCM & LCM seems to be a done deal, the 2010 seasons started on Jan 1, 2010 & the rule began on Jan 1, 2010.
SCY is an American thing. The 2009 - 2010 SCY season began on June 1st 2009 and ends on May 31st 2010.
Will the new suit rules take effect immediately or at the end of this season?
I've heard rumours we might be able to wear full body suits at 2010 SCY Nats.
Look forward to finding out what the USMS ruling will be for SCY.
1/15/10 FINA BUREAU CONSIDERS SWIMWEAR RULES FOR MASTERS
The FINA Bureau has considered Masters swimwear rules. The USMS Rules Committee will learn the results shortly and then will immediately reconsider the USMS swimwear rules in cooperation with the USMS Executive Committee. All USMS members will be notified of any changes to USMS swimwear rules and the effective date. Regardless of any changes to the USMS swimwear rules, the June 1, 2009 USMS swimwear interpretations will apply for the duration of the One Hour Postal Swim being conducted in January 2010.

Personally, I kinda glad that I now get to try a real "tech" suit to see what the fuss is all about.....even though I've been against them the whole time.
If I can get one I will wear one at Auburn and Nationals and have the newest jammer as a back up.

I was old school just like you until I tried one out. Beware the forbidden fruit.
This probably isn't what you are implying, but I don't think folks who disagree with the ruling but will still wear tech suits are necessarily hypocritical:
1) folks may want to get their money's worth out of the suits
2) they may want to be able to compare times to previous swims
3) they may want to win
:
I"m #1. I have 1 Aquapel that is brand new, in the bag and 1 Aquapel that has been worn once. Both are made of a legal material but they have zippers so they will be illegal as of 6/1. So I figured since I have a few more months, I'm going to wear them out. Then I''ll go buy a 2010 approved suit. Although I may do a USAS meet in the mean time so I'll be looking for a 2010 suit sooner.
Here is my question for those of us that think USMS has made the wrong decision by allowing the tech suits to continue though the scy season.
I think USMS made the right decision and I will race in my B70 bodysuit whenever I want to swim fast (e.g., Nationals and a mid-March mid-season taper) and/or I want to get an "apples to apples" comparison with last season.
This weekend, for example, I'm wearing my B70 in my 1650 because I want to see how my time compares with last year at the exact same meet in a B70. I'll also wear it in my 500 to see how the time compares with 2009 season. I'll wear jammers, though, in my 50s of the strokes, though, because, well, quite frankly, they're just "fun" events for me to do so I don't get bored between my 1650 and 500!
The "problem" is that -- by perception if not in reality -- the suit technology began to dominate those other considerations. ...
Won't argue that one bit. I just think it is a shame that the other considerations aren't taken into account though.
Why not take full advantage of the suits while we can?
I don't see being in the dark about your times next year an advantage. I don't know about you, but I didn't do any big meets prior to the tech suits except back in college. I'd prefer to take a 4-5 place hit at nationals but get some baseline times for future comparison.
Taking some grand jihad stance now against the suits means your are either A) a cheap skate or B) a doofus.
A) Yes. B) Most likely.
No jihad here- if they were going to stay legal and I could continue to compare swims in the future I would certainly wear them.
My replacement Jaked arrived just after Nationals last August.I had to miss my SCM taper meet, darn right I am going to wear it at my SCY taper meet(hopefully Nats.)

Allen, I hope to see you in Atlanta!

I prefer to swim fast. I could really care less about next year. Next year will sort itself out.
As a flip side argument, maybe your goal next year is to match or beat your tech suit times, motivation and training goal.
