FINA issued Ruled,www.usms.org/.../showpost.php
Soon the USMS rules committee will issue their ruling.
SCM & LCM seems to be a done deal, the 2010 seasons started on Jan 1, 2010 & the rule began on Jan 1, 2010.
SCY is an American thing. The 2009 - 2010 SCY season began on June 1st 2009 and ends on May 31st 2010.
Will the new suit rules take effect immediately or at the end of this season?
I've heard rumours we might be able to wear full body suits at 2010 SCY Nats.
Look forward to finding out what the USMS ruling will be for SCY.
1/15/10 FINA BUREAU CONSIDERS SWIMWEAR RULES FOR MASTERS
The FINA Bureau has considered Masters swimwear rules. The USMS Rules Committee will learn the results shortly and then will immediately reconsider the USMS swimwear rules in cooperation with the USMS Executive Committee. All USMS members will be notified of any changes to USMS swimwear rules and the effective date. Regardless of any changes to the USMS swimwear rules, the June 1, 2009 USMS swimwear interpretations will apply for the duration of the One Hour Postal Swim being conducted in January 2010.

I have commented on more occasions than I should admit, "It's the suit."
I am not one for bragging (except about my kids to our family members), and this is not meant to be as such, but on Dec 31st after having not swum for 2-plus weeks, I swam 100 x 100 on 1:20 (SCY). My first 10 were holding 1:09s, for awhile I was holding 1:11s and eventually settled into 1:13s until about 90, where I dropped to 1:17s.
This was most certainly due the B70 I was wearing. I got out and felt like I could have kept going still, not that I would have- the champagne and chocolate on deck was too enticing!
I have done this swim many a years, in a regular suit, and I am barely making the interval at 75 and I die at 86. But I always finish! It has always been horrible.
Anyway for me, it is, has been, and will be "the suit" as long as I'm wearing it.
Word. And I'm thinking of taking it even one step further than AquaGnad and wearing the suit post 6/1 on occasion.
I definitely would not agree with that and would hope you'd be asked to leave the heat before it began. That would be disrespectful to all swimmers in your heat.
for people worried about swimming slower, i say to you, "man up, buttercup, and put in the proper training."
Now this kind of thinking just ticks me off. Some purists assume we despicable techies use our cheating suits because we are too lazy to train and seek instant gratification. Ha! Most people I know, including myself, train their asses off. Not sure what more I could do at this point to "man up."
I have heard the following statement -- sometimes as a joke, sometimes not -- among quite a few masters swimmers about the suit ban: time to get fit and lose weight (Ahelee Sue posted this very comment on FB. Not that she needs to worry about either...). Too bad it took a ban to bring out such sentiments.
I don't plan to do either of these. :-P
I like going faster because I don't like going slower.
Where's the Fort when I need her?
Word. My sentiments precisely.
Sorry to leave you stranded with the old school geezers. I was busy training my ass off and, as my Speedo correctly noted, getting my glorious new red hair glazed to match my avatar. :)
No sport with an organizing body provides unlimited choice to its athletes and competitors. The Tour de France has a minimum weight rule for bicyles. The NFL football has very specific physical specifications. The diving boards used in competition have exact specifications. Why should Masters swimming be any different?
You still have choices, just fewer of them.
I have to laugh at USMS being compared to the NFL and Tour de France.
No. Just slower. The 15 meter underwater rule on starts and turns is another example of a rule change that effectively slowed swimmers down.
Ha ha. Not on my side of the pond.
Evidently we need to eat less. I'm holding my breath for SDK improvement with the hopes that an extra appendage will pop out and make me more manly. My husband will freak out but oh well.
I think I know who you are now, she-name changer puff!
