After a couple of years away from the pool, I have just started again, and so has an old problem. The skin on the tip of my nose is inflamed, just a patch really. This isn't a runny nose, or sinusitis, just the skin. But it's sore enough to be a bit worrisome.
I'm making a dermatologist appointment today but anticipate that I won't get in for a few weeks. In the meantime an internet search has turned nothing up. Anyone else have this problem? Solutions?
The pool that I've been swimming in uses bromine -- could that be the culprit? I know I have had this with chlorinated pools before...
Thanks for any advice.
I saw a topical pre-swim cream advertised on the "swimmer's choice" website. It's supposed to help people with skin issues caused by chlorine. Check it out.
I'd probably still go to the dermatologist though.
Maybe try a simple barrier prior to swimming, like Aquaphor or A&D (both found in the baby aisle and very gentle on the skin)? Cheap and can't hurt to try...
Thank you all for the suggestions! I tried the Aquaphor and it works pretty well (except when I rub it off forgetting why my nose feels strange). May also try the pre-swim products. Problem solved!
