Back to swimming, old problem with nose

After a couple of years away from the pool, I have just started again, and so has an old problem. The skin on the tip of my nose is inflamed, just a patch really. This isn't a runny nose, or sinusitis, just the skin. But it's sore enough to be a bit worrisome. I'm making a dermatologist appointment today but anticipate that I won't get in for a few weeks. In the meantime an internet search has turned nothing up. Anyone else have this problem? Solutions? The pool that I've been swimming in uses bromine -- could that be the culprit? I know I have had this with chlorinated pools before... Thanks for any advice.
  • I saw a topical pre-swim cream advertised on the "swimmer's choice" website. It's supposed to help people with skin issues caused by chlorine. Check it out. I'd probably still go to the dermatologist though.
  • Maybe try a simple barrier prior to swimming, like Aquaphor or A&D (both found in the baby aisle and very gentle on the skin)? Cheap and can't hurt to try...

Thank you all for the suggestions! I tried the Aquaphor and it works pretty well (except when I rub it off forgetting why my nose feels strange). May also try the pre-swim products. Problem solved!
