Being an average swimmer and not owning a high tech suit I have never cared about what suits others wear. All I wanted to do was swim my own race, although I will admit that winning is fun.
However, at a inter-squad meet this past Friday I borrowed a old fastskin hi-neck kneeskin from my coach. WOW!! What a feeling!!
Swam five events in one hr. (yes I know, a lot for 1 hr.).
Swam "masters" personal best in two events.
Swam a lifetime PB in one event.
The other two events were very repectable swims for me.
I am not bragging, just wanted to find an audience that would understand. Wish I would have bought a suit earlier.
I guess I am one of the lucky ones - never used anything beyond a pair of Fastskin leggings about 8 years ago at a High School championship meet. Never have felt a real justification to spend $100+ on a swim suit when I can still accomplish so much by training harder, etc. If I felt that I had hit a wall with training, then perhaps I would have been more inclined to buy the suit.
