During the SPMA meet, I floated a Tech suit compromise by a few swimmers and they all seemed to be very interested. I am sure this has been suggested before, but here is goes -
- allow all current tech suits for all yards meets for the next 3 years (you can always revisit this)
- adopt what FINA issues in January for all meters meets
I think both "sides" could live with this, USMS can still say they comply with FINA, but the tech suit "junkies" can still have a full season each year.

I loved not having to shave down for the SCM championships. I liked my B70. It was the first swim meet that i used an illegal suit. It was wonderful!!
I will continue being a sheep and do what i'm told but I would love to keep these suits for Masters.
p.s. The Long Beach Belmont pool and facility is cold...

No kidding, when I was leaving the house for Belmont on Sunday morning my neighbor asked, "where are you going, the mountains?"
Staying warm was key.

What suit did you wear that was illegal? The b70 is perfectly legal for us.

Hmmm. Nice list. By the way, I've been to 3 of those countries on your list.
You don't have to have a valid passport and visa to care about what the rest of the world does.
Having been to 11 different countries besides the U.S., I can assure you that I have a passport. Just because I have a passport doesn't mean I think we should do everything the rest of the world does.
Just because the rest of the world does SCM does not mean we have to move away from SCY. It's the American tradition and there is nothing wrong with it.
P.S. Maybe one of these days, I will see you at a meet and share my trip to Kazakhstan with you. Quite a cool experience.
Compromise is OK. The problem is now that 2009 -2010 season has had some meets, the tech suits are still in the swim. How do we/they stop in mid season??
How do we/they stop in mid season??
Easy enough: by saying "stop." Life isn't always fair. There will be the usual suspects in the Top Ten either way. Five years from now -- heck, by this time next year -- no one will remember or care exactly when we stopped.
The fate of the free world hardly hangs in the balance here. Suits, no suits, January, June...whatever. Let's just swim.
I take offense to your insinuation that I call swimming a joke in the USA.
I do call YARDS a joke but never the swimming.
Please don't scramble my words any more than they are already!
Ahelee, please don't pay any attention to crankymeek's scrambling of your words. He is need of attention, so he does his best to get people to respond to his senseless banter.
Who cares what the rest of the world does. Should we all start driving on the left side of the road because most of the English -speaking world does?

Couldn't it be argued that the mid-season change favors certain regions over others? For example, between June 1 and the present date, I'm not aware of any USMS SCY meets in Tennessee or Georgia where times could have counted for top ten. I imagine there may be other states/regions where this is also the case.
The time when the ban goes into effect will be very important. Many will have BSB (before suit ban) times and ASB (after suit ban) times.
