Tech Suit Compromise

During the SPMA meet, I floated a Tech suit compromise by a few swimmers and they all seemed to be very interested. I am sure this has been suggested before, but here is goes - - allow all current tech suits for all yards meets for the next 3 years (you can always revisit this) - adopt what FINA issues in January for all meters meets I think both "sides" could live with this, USMS can still say they comply with FINA, but the tech suit "junkies" can still have a full season each year.
  • Definitely agree! Anyway - NO ONE in the world except Americans care about short course yards! Who the heck would care - complain - or know any different if we wore rubber? I have a terrific swim friend from CANADA. Got beat up by her in Long Beach :) She knows EVERYONE'S times and rankings in the world for our age-group and the soon to be entering. She knows who wins at our short course nationals, but has no clue as to how fast or slow the times are actually! It has worked to my advantage a few times... but you know I'm not competitive at all!
  • The fact that the majority of the elite world wants to swim here in college nullifies your argument completely. The international swimmers want to swim in American universities for the free or discounted education - and for the opportunity to train with our great coaches and fierce competition. Short course yard times are never World Records or comparable to times swum anywhere else in the world. Converting yards to meters or vice versa, even on an official time conversion website is only an estimated guess. I still say short course yards is a joke. We Americans seem to enjoy making our own rules and expect everyone else to play by them :) I love short course racing and simply feel its a shame that we don't have all those SCY months of racing to play with the rest of the swimming humanity outside of the USA.

We Americans seem to enjoy making our own rules and expect everyone else to play by them :) You can't claim the best want to be here for our swimming and then claim it's a joke. Obviously, it's not a joke. We make the rules cause we are king of the mountain, that's how it works.

We make the rules cause we are king of the mountain, that's how it works. hahaha I wonder what the best foreigners training here actually think of SCY? Maybe they think it's a fun diversion. Personally, I wish masters swimming in the US wasn't so focused on SCY and that there was an equal balance of both or more SCM. It's December and I don't even have SCM times in any of best events -- e.g., 50 back 50 fly, 50 free. I don't see how this is a good thing. I wouldn't give a toss if SCY was tech suit through the end of the season while the others courses were non-tech suit if FINA bans them. I don't find order and perfect symmetry very compelling. Sounds fun to have a twist for the rest of the season.
  • You can't claim the best want to be here for our swimming and then claim it's a joke. Obviously, it's not a joke. I take offense to your insinuation that I call swimming a joke in the USA. I do call YARDS a joke but never the swimming. Please don't scramble my words any more than they are already!
  • Ahelee, please don't pay any attention to crankymeek's scrambling of your words. He is need of attention, so he does his best to get people to respond to his senseless banter. Yep, Creakageek's "We're king of the mountain. That's how it works" is absolutely classic.
  • Who cares what the rest of the world does. Should we all start driving on the left side of the road because most of the English -speaking world does? Because of cost, I'm still in favor of banning them after May 31.
  • The rest of the world, and wookie, doesn't wear deodorant either. I'm not jumping on that bandwagon.
  • Yep, Creakageek's "We're king of the mountain. That's how it works" is absolutely classic. Shouldn't that be "Streakageek?" :bolt:
  • Q: who cares what the rest of the world does? A: anyone with a valid passport and a visa card. You better watch yourself next September when you get 12 miles offshore and become legal to hunt in international waters.
