As I understand it, Phelps is wearing jammers while the competition are still in suits, correct? So, with that perspective, Phelps is actually doing quite well.
The dopes on ESPN might say that he is washed up though. I think that he is training through these meets and just mentoring the younger swimmers. Overall, Phelps doesn't need to do anything at this point. After 14 Olympic Gold Medals, just making finals at these events just adds to his greatness.
