The meet is now underway! Awesome swim by Tom Patterson in the 400 IM. He won the 30-34 age group with a 5:16.48, almost 17 seconds under his seed time. Congrats!
he made the 84 olympic team in the 100 br, 100 fl & 200 IM
1:02, :54, & 2:03
This statement is not entirely correct. Steve Lundquist made the 1984 OLympic team in the 100 *** and 200 IM but not in the 100 fly. In the 100 Fly, every one remembers Pablo Morales making it as the current WR holder at that time. But the guy that had the WR before him was the other 100 flyer and not Lunk. His name was Matt Gribble and he went to the Univ. of Miami. In fact in 1983, the Men's 400 Medley Relay team that won at the Pan American Games set a WR and it was the only time since 1956 when they started the 4 stroke medley to have all of the members of the relay be the WR holders in there individual events. Rick Carey in 100 back, Lunk in 100 ***, Gribble in 100 fly, and Gaines in 100 Free.
There have been many relays where 3 members have had the current individual event WR, but not all 4. In 1984, at the start of the Olympics, Pablo Morales had the WR but lost it in the individual event to Michael Gross, so that was about the closest its been done since 1983.
Matt Gribble died in a tragic car accident about 5 years ago. www.blogofdeath.com/.../000844.html
