The meet is now underway! Awesome swim by Tom Patterson in the 400 IM. He won the 30-34 age group with a 5:16.48, almost 17 seconds under his seed time. Congrats!

  • My training mate who competed at the '84 Trials said that he doesn't were goggles when he races. Also, some older swimmer that I met today says that he doesn't wear in the 50s. How could anyone put their eyes in chlorinated water???? I almost never wear goggles in my backstroke races; the extra peripheral vision helps me swim straighter. I will wear them when the sun is bad, or when I have a hard time judging the flip otherwise. (I also don't wear them in backstroke sets in practice...but my practice pools aren't chlorinated.) Just saw this cross my screen as the latest completed heat: 1 Switzer, Keith M 46 BLU 2:04.00 1:57.89 28.11 58.03 (29.92) 1:27.79 (29.76) 1:57.89 (30.10) 2 Stevenson, Chris L 45 VMST 2:01.40 2:01.76 28.30 59.36 (31.06) 1:30.42 (31.06) 2:01.76 (31.34) edit: Jeff "Muppet" Strahota dropped a bomb with a 2:07 mid 200 free. His seed time was a 2:18! That was a great swim by Keith (and Jeff). Interesting tidbit: Keith wore the usual B70...and no cap. I found that a little odd, but it obviously works for him.
