...I has it.
It hurts (a lot) in the left ear--even my jaw, a little--and my right ear is constantly getting some kind of drainage but it's not painful.
How can I get rid of both of these, short of a prescription? (If I can't do it in a couple of days, I'll bite and go get one). I tried ear drops (smells like rubbing alcohol) in my left ear. Ear wax remover drops and a subsequent flush seem to help in the right ear but it keeps coming back.
I wear an mp3 player when I swim to avert BOREDOM, so earplugs are probably out of the question--how can I treat this yucky stuff?
Could it be that the pool I just swim in is "dirty"? There is so much chlorine in there, I don't see how. But if a lot of people are in it, it gets cloudy.
What can I do?

In 49 years, I never had swimmers ear. Until last year...
Convinced it was related to pool cleanliness since several other swimmers in our program began to also experience this problem.
I started using simple ear drying drops from the drug store so I could get rid of the water shaking around in my head - and be sure my ears were dry. In about 2 weeks, the ache was gone but I kept up the drops.
Have not experienced a problem and have not used my drops in a few months.
Suggest you check in with the pool management about the issue as well.
