Just checked the results from the Italian Masters Championships -- interesting to see a different "population curve". I looked at the 50 Free and the participation in the younger age groups is massive. They had over 100 swimmers in all the younger age groups and then it tapers off starting at about 45 years of age. But 142 swimmers competing (Men) in the 30-34 age group alone ....

Wouldn't agree that only sprints at meets - there is good variety . overall the Italian masters movement is very popular and with a good level . Very socail too and good lunches or dinners are an important part of the weekend at competitions .
what part of italy are you in ? i lived in desenzano del garda.(where they have a great outdoor 50 m, and 2 indoor 25m pools. in comparison with the american masters meets where i lived in florida, they are shorter( we often have 2 to 3 day meets). now , i live in georgia and it is different. less meets. but always a 200im. how many times have you seen a 400Im at an local italian meet? maybe things are changing since i moved back to the states.
