Why does it appear many masters swimmers are taking USMS so seriously?
What's the difference between the typical "selfish train all day", "it's all about me" triathlete and a masters swimmer who seriously trains as hard as they can.... particularly to focus on setting masters records?
Seems like there is a growing parallel between triathletes and many masters swimmers these days.
Isn't it just "masters swimming" for health and fun in the end?
Does a masters record really mean that much?
Is this a good thing? ..... or a turn off for those who look on with amusement.

What I've learned from this thread. . .
You learned something? I just got dumber, and I didn't even think that was technically possible.
No, they are not. Ever. But they should not be objects of scorn or sources of amusement in the eyes of the elite swimmers.
Are there, in fact, any records held by non-elite elitists?

To each his/her own. This is a competitive sport after all. Not to be solely dominated by those with a past history.
The average American spends 4 hours a day watching TV. Who knows how many hours in front of a computer. It is not only a good thing, but a commendable thing for adult swimmers invest time and effort into becoming healthy.
Jane and Joe usms members who work hard and don speed suits are sooner or later going to take down a record held by an elitist who swam off of a talent base. That's just the way it is. And oh yes, good for them. Not shame on them.
Yes, men's 40-44 50m ***:lmao:
Hmm ... Haven't I seen a picture of you hanging out with Matt Biondi in college?
I agree that you've never exhibited any signs of needing a proctologist or an ego-resection.
My greatest dissapointment in this very entertaining thread is that she (Geek) somehow seems to have gotten offended by the whole thing and bailed on us...I'm suffering withdrawls from my expectation of fiery Geekism's with such low hanging fruit (the discussion Jim, not what we saw in your Borat suit) for her to attack...did Geek ever bail on an Ion diatribe?
If you read public blogs, you'd know that She-Geek is on vacation working out to excess.
That's not very positive thinking.
By age 80, with good genes, and a can-do attitude, anything is possible.
More condescension and elitism. I guess changing your user name doesn't make that much difference.
Talent, just like records and tech suits, is not the sole property of former elitist has beens.
True. Talent is talent whether it be dormant or active. Elitists perhaps don't easily accept or understand this notion.
Dear Sir:
I happen to know both Smiths-the individuals whose pictures you made caricatures out of and personally attacked. Despite the fact that the Smiths are "big boys", big targets, and can take care of themselves, I find your public post unbelievably offensive. In part, the offensiveness is because our law firm handles sexual assault cases. And, let me be crystal clear- your public post with link is not cute, funny, or remotely bordering on anything appropriate.
Rather, I find, "turns the Smith twins into his bitches" and your posting of "ejaculation" a violation of the USMS posting guidelines-check out the Facq/Forum Rules.
If you continue with these posts, I will personally see how the administrator, Mr. Matysekj and USMS feel about you and your posts and whether you and your public posts and links on United States Masters Swimming's website should be removed and/or barred as uncivil/offensive.
Your complete lack of sensitivity around gays, women, any ordinary John and/or Jane Doe, anyone sexual abused, etc, in your post speaks for itself. Again, the Smiths are big boys, but you have crossed the line-please stop this and return to being civil and fun natured. Thanks.
Sincerely,
Robert Killeen Jr.
Jim,
Next time, please feel free to mock geek. There is a lot of mocking to be had at this creampuff's wannabe expense. he is starved for attention. he is so starved that he unleashes creative insults(well, as creative as a unc grad can be) at members of this forum. his posts are his only way of getting people to pay attention to him, even if for a brief second. one day, this geek may find the ability to be half the woman that Fort is, but for now, he must sulk through his daily life as a shell of a man, attempting to lift himself up at be a bigger boy than he is.
This way, you will be able to still express your right of freedom of speech, without getting bobby killeen's panties in wad.
If I had good genes, I'd be an elite swimmer. Then I could drink beer and be amused by the pathetic stuggles of a mediocre swimmer like me.
Buck up little camper...we all can't be great but some of us are sure good and whining about it and begging for attention...here, maybe this will help you feel better: YouTube - Tom Jones & EMF "Unbelieveable"
Careful Mr. Positive...she can be a bit bristly! And trust me..she has NEVER shown any trace of condescension and/or elitism, pure and as non-judgemental as the driven snow that one!
Jazz....still waiting on that FB request??
Ouch. Point well taken. My apologies.
I know it's hard to change your stripes when something is so second nature ...
Clydesdale, I never claimed to be pure, perfectly OK with being flawed. You just have your knickers in a twist b/c your old alpha male self cannot persuade, cajol or bully me into agreeing with your conservative politics!
