Anyone know if these are legal? I'm just looking to buy a cheap pair of leggings for some swims this summer until the whole tech suit mess is cleared up. I saw these for $70 @ Kiefer. I believe they are fairly old and, hence, should be approved. Anyone know for sure?
depends on how long ago they were released, and if they're 100% textile or not... see the fina announcement this past friday for the official wording...
(and assuming USMS is following that part of fina's regulations at this point or not...)
Patrick,
If you are swimming in a Masters-only meet, you can wear whatever you want.
If you are swimming in a USA Swimming meet, you can wear anything on the approved list. Anything not on the approved list must have been introduced before 2008 and must not go past the knee for men.
So, if you're swimming in a USA Swimming meet, you might not be able to wear it. But I suppose it depends on whether or not the officials are really watching and monitoring this.
If you swim a WR time in a Masters meet will Fina accept the time for top ten or record? I think not...........wear what you want.
So you think FINA will reject all times prior to USMS officially confirming that they are adhering to the list of approved suits?
What about masters times swum in USA-S meets? Those will be thrown out too because they're masters times that would be submitted by USMS?
There is a chance that FINA will do that. You can't set any Masters WR in a USS meet.
But it would for times swum since the approval list was issued, right? They'd accept times from earlier in the year?
You can, however, get FINA TT times during USS meets.
What about the Jaked 03? This was one of the 10 suits rejected by FINA, right? If so, how can this be worn at USMS meets like it was at Mission Viejo last weekend? I thought USMS had only said you could wear suits that were submitted for re-testing and that they had confirmed B70s were submitted for re-testing.
The Jaked 01 legal for USMS meets for now. But wearing a drag suit over your speedo is not. Go figure.
I remember that Q & A. However, I also recall Rob Copeland saying masters could wear suits that were being re-tested. Such a statement would appear to exclude suits like the Jaked 01 that were flat out rejected. I don't recall the exact language ... have to look it up.
I'm not sure what FINA will do. They might reject any records or times recorded in any meet worldwide that doesn't accept their list of approved suits. These will be times set between the date the list came out and the date the governing body accepts their list.
There was never a list of what was rejected and what is being retested. The Jaked and the B70 are in the same boat. Both were previously approved and used in competition and now both did not make the fina approved list. Having seen both recently, they look the same. Except one says Jaked on it.

Thanks!
The B70 lacks the LZR-like fancy compression girdle that makes the Jaked so obscenely fast.
