I'm wondering how many swimmers out there treat outer ear infections themselves (without a Dr. visit). I haven't gone to the Dr. for an outer ear infection since I was little.
When I was swimming in high school and college I would use straight isopropyl alcohol before and after swimming if my ear hurt. It would always clear up in one or two days. I've sworn by that ever since.
A couple of years ago, I mentioned that to a pharmacist while picking up a prescription med for my child's ear infection. The pharmacist seemed horrified that I would even think about using straight isopropyl alcohol on my child's ear infection. So I never have.
Anyone else out there who has treated a sore ear this way??? I swear I learned this technique from a coach somewhere along the way...

Best bet, ask a ear, nose and throat specialist when it is appropriate to use Swim Ear and like, and when it is not, on your kid. Swim Ear is 95% alcohol.
Rarely do I talk to a pharmacist who isn't trying to do 3 things at once, so who knows how much thought was given to that suggestion. Worse, you could have been talking to some random assistant who actually knows nothing.
