I must be getting old, I have only entered my outdoor lap pool once since it opened on Memorial Day weekend. The water was 74, but the air temp was 80. Nights have dipped into the 40's and this morning, I planned to give it a try, however, it was 64 degrees and very windy, cloudy and the water temp was only 70. I should mention that no one was in the pool either. Every summer I run maniacly to the sports stores in hopes of finding a wetsuit that feels NOTHING like a wetsuit and come home empty handed. So, who's swimming outdoors now, with or without a wetsuit, and what are your water temps?

Yes...I swim in Dover, New Hampshire. We have a 50 M pool and it just opened to Masters and one of our Age group teams. Our first day in was Sunday, May 31st...It was wonderful! We swim in it generally until labor day so the season is very short! It does not open to the public until 6/22:bliss: Is it heated? what's the temp?

90 minutes but Friday, I was gone after 75 minutes. Yes, Summer is here in the East Coast but the stupid rain will still be around next week. Well, yesterday it was 74 and the air was hot and humid, but I got so dizzy I had to get out. I went indoors and finished the workout. Bummer. Now we have rain for the next 3 days, so the water will drop to 70 again. I guess to you, that is balmy. :)

Is it heated? what's the temp? Yes, it is heated. Not sure of the temp exactly, I'm guessing 78-80? Feels warm when it is cold out. Tonight, it is about 53 deg and I'm NOT swimming outside...air too cold. Hoping to get there Thursday but T-storms are in the forecast and when that happens...we can't swim.
  • Does anyone else's outdoor pool close if it's "too cold"? At the outdoor pool I swim at they've closed early a couple times because the air temps drop below some threshold (60?). The guards have sweats. I don't understand. When I lifeguarded at UCLA (back in the 70s) the pool was open year-round and was never closed because of low temps. We were out there with temps in the 40s on occasion (sweats and flip flops, sitting in a little guard box with plexiglas windows). Skip

We are fourtunate to have a 50 M pool in Dover, NH. I believe it is one of the only 50 m outdoor pools in NE, if not THE only 50 M Pool. It was renamed "Jenny Thompson" pool probably about 8-10 years ago since Jenny swam for Seacoast Swimming Associatoin here in Dover as an age -grouper

Lucky east coast people - so many indoor pools. It doesn't exactly get super cold along the CA coast, but I still have to put up with outdoor swimming in 30-40 degree F weather. Luckily pool stays around 78, so I survive. I disagree a little. I live in San Diego. I LOVE swimming in the pool when it is below 40. The water feels realy warm at first touch. ...don't spend much time on the deck, however.

When it rains, yeah but we get out when we hear thunder. Of course, there are people who call thunder when it is only the sound of an airplane. Haha, understandable. Seems like swimming in the rain would be some great fun!

I'd imagine that'd be great; swimming while its raining :) I love swimming in the rain, b/c no one else is in the pool but me! of course, the guards sit there and give you the "stare" :waiting:because they want to go up on the deck and play cards or sleep. It's awesome, you don't even know it's raining when you're swimming.

My pool is never closed, even if it's freezing and pouring. However, the instant the alleged "thunderclap" is heard, we are thrown out of the pool. Where's your pool located?
